Membership Information Mounted shooting is a sport developed in Arizona under the rules of the Cowboy Mounted Shooting Assn. Mounted shooting is a combination of action pistol shooting, barrel racing, and old west reenactment. The targets consist of 10 balloons set up in various patterns in an area the size of a football field. The ammunition used is black powder show blanks. The ammo has an effective range of 10-15 feet, which is enough to break the targets without endangering the spectators. The needed equipment includes a pair of single action pistols in .45 Colt caliber and a horse that doesn’t mind the noise. Most horses really get into the spirit of the game and enjoy it. The object is to ride your horse, usually at a canter or gallop, as fast as possible through the course while engaging the balloons along the way. The fastest time wins with 5 second penalties added for each miss. These are amateur events and entry fees and prizes are kept low. Cowboy Mounted Shooting is a family activity. Spouses and kids may participate in the shooting and riding. Most events will include a trail ride, potluck dinner, music around the campfire, and a campout. May participate in non-shooting activities and receive newsletters. May not vote or run for office. Annual Member $40.00/year. All benefits of associate members and may vote at club meetings and run for officer or board positions. Only annual members are eligible for the titles of Midwest Champion, Reserve Champion, Lady Champion, or Junior Champion. Annual memberships shall be on a calendar year basis only, not prorated. Family Member $60.00/year. May include husband, wife, significant other, and an unlimited number of dependent children. All benefits of annual members. Only one family member may run for office. All family members are eligible for Champion titles. Family memberships shall be on a calendar year basis only, not prorated. |
